Black oil is not a reason to buy another bike, After 2000 miles the oils will be black as coal. If it's black and has lots of metallic particles in the oils then walk away.
I'm a honda dealer and we are yet to get a cbr125 that has broken down (For anything serious)
I would check it over and make sure it starts first time every time and it has no knocks or grinds when it's running.
So far as a honda dealer I've seen very little to worry about on a CBR125 there very bullet-proof like all Honda's.
If you buy a CBR125 then spent a little time changing the oil/brake pads/ brake fluid. It'll feel like a new bike after.
The brake on the CBR125 can be a little spongy after alot of mileage but a Fluid change normally sorts it.
CBR125 Will do 70MPH but will take 2x as long as the RS125 to get there.
Ok now for the RS125.......
I owned a fully tuned RS125 GP bike, Simple the best handling bike i have EVER rode and I have rode 1000's of bikes in my time.
As for speed a standard RS125 will do around 90MPH unrestricted.
My GP RS could do around 125MPH with tuning/gearing changed ETC and what a fantastic looking bike!
But here's the bad part.... Reliability... Being a 2 stroke you will need to change the pistons and rings at regular intervals and 2 strokes can heat seize randomly when being thrashed or when the mixture of fuel is off ETC.
Another weak point within the RS125's engine (What is a rotax engine) is the plastic gears that drive the water pump, They wear and bust easily what will blow the bike up.
Also anyone who has ceased a 2 stroke at 100mph will know how dangerous they can be.
Also the RS125 has a very very weak rear shock I went through 2 in less then a year. Very costly at around £80 ( $140 ish?) a time.
So whats the best bike to buy? If your not bothered by speed and your looking just to get into biking then the CBR125 is hands down winner. Relieable, smooth, fantastic bike for the daily work drive and such.
BUT If your like me and want to use it on track and fast rides with other bikes go for the RS125. Many times have I left GSX1000R's behind round the twisty roads and looked great doing it!! More of a weekend blaster with great handling and looks to match.
The RS125 will cost more to run / meataine / service but the handling and speed is enough to pay the extra money for.
People don't buy 1liter bikes to save petrol do they
